Letters From a Woke Woman

Dear Reader,

I  have much to share, as I have learned much while on this quest of wokeness.

In November of 2015, at 29 years old, a documentary unlocked the part of me I had hidden away as an adolescent. This treasure stored safely out of sight, consequently became out of mind. This jewel was my own culture–my heritage; my very essence of Blackness.

As I began my journey to learn more about myself through learning more about my people; our origins prior to and after our kidnapping and enslavement– the floodgates were splayed wide, leaving every part of me up for examination and contemplation.

Journey alongside me as I share the truths I now recognize–the truths that were before, hidden from mine eyes.

Sincerely,

A Woke Woman
